Laura & Brian's Kitchen Renovation Ideas
Laura and her husband, Brain, planned their extensive home renovation project for years.
As they saved up and pondered their project, Laura collected kitchen renovation ideas. She found decor she liked and ordered it online from sites like Wayfair and Amazon. She also found bargains and items she liked at local shops and department stores. And a few months ago, when they were ready, they called Heidi Berlin at the Flooring Studio to put it all together.
While their home, built in the mid-1980s, had a number of reasons to undertake major renovations, the biggest struggle for Laura and Brian was with the kitchen. “It was so annoying and so hard to work in there,” said Laura. “Everything was in this tiny little space so you couldn’t work with another person in the kitchen at all.”
And while they were short on space in the main area of the kitchen, a separate area, walled off from the kitchen and intended as a small extra dining area went virtually unused. “It’s an old house. Who knows what people were thinking,” Laura added.
“Our first step was to just remove that wall and open up that whole space,” said Berlin. It opens up the whole floor plan and created so much more room to work with.”
From renovation ideas to finished project…
And now that the renovations are complete, a much more functional kitchen and dining space has emerged.
At the same time, Berlin helped Laura find the perfect flooring options for much of the upstairs living space. “It’s all connected since the floor plan is so open now. Having the same flooring throughout the space connects it all together and creates an amazing flow from area to area.”
Laura’s rugs, found during her project pondering, also help tie it all together. Despite having been purchased from numerous shops, the colors and styles complement one another beautifully.
Another matching element is the new fireplace in the living room. Tiles matching those in the bathroom on the other side of the living room were utilized for the new hearth.
“We love working with homeowners who have decorating and remodeling ideas,” said Berlin. “It’s their home, after all, and our goal is to create space that reflects a style and feel the homeowner loves.”
But at the same time, Berlin says, having kitchen renovation ideas in mind or ideas for renovations in general, isn’t a requirement. “Some people have very solid ideas of what they want a space to become. Others don’t know where to start. And still, others are somewhere in the middle. We help them all find the best ways to express their individual style and create a more functional and stylish space.”
